For those who don't know, this is my FAVORITE book. When I found out they were doing a movie, I was ecstatic. And then terrified because they were sure to break it.

I don't want to give many spoilers here because I know a lot of you haven't seen it yet, but have read the book. Suffice it to say, though ... it's worth seeing. It did not make me sob the way the book does (every single time I read it!), and there was a lot left out (because there has to be, honestly)... but it is still a truly beautiful story.

... right up until the end, that is. It did end well, but ... the last scene of the book? With Claire in the retirement home and Henry visiting her? They cut it. Entirely. I was all set to absolutely RAVE about how well it was adapted, but ... how do you leave out that scene? It's just not right. :(

The death scene didn't touch me nearly the way it does in the book, either. And they rearranged the way the flashback/foreshadow scene a bit, which I didn't much care for.

But everything else - the first meeting in the library, the other first meeting in the meadow... the miscarriages (a little TOO well done, given my history... but at least I knew to expect it). It was good. Better than I was expecting it to be.

And now I want to re-read the book, for what I believe will be my 4th time, because I want to revisit all the scenes that got cut out from the movie version. :)
